Abstract

|
As a member of medical circle, I think that the meaning of emergency situation would be possibly different to nurses because stress-related nurse’s works, such as emergency situation and the critical condition of patient give much burden to the nurses. From nurses’ point of view, however, the reality is that the studies on emergency situation is short. This study is designed to provide demonstrative information for understanding nurses’ emergency situation by identifying the meaning of nurses’ experience with emergency situation experiences from nurses’ viewpoint. The study is designed to understand and explore the essence of emergency situation(respiration arrest and cardiac arrest) by identifying the meaning of emergency situation to nurses. The study is a gualitative study using a phenomenological approach in order to identify the essence of nurses’ experience with emergency situation and to understand the structure of their vital experience. Data were analyzed according to Colaizzi(1978)’s method. The essence of nurses’ experience with emergency situation was identified by constructing the 15 collections of theme into 9 categories: “perplexed”, “ambivalence”, “sense of mission”, “skiepiticism”, “burden”, “expectation”, “get away”, “prepare the next”, “recognizing anew of the meaning of life”.
